Bhagavad Gita is an epic poem between a mad warrior named Arjuna and the Hindu god Krishna. Lord Krishna advised Arjuna in times of despair. And even though Krishna speaks to this warrior, he speaks to all of us.
Here are lessons about the Bhagavad Gita that we can apply in our lives:
1. Dharma ("Sacred Obligation")
Each of us is born with a "sacred duty" that we must fulfill in this life. It was Arjuna's job to become a warrior during the war. But for us, being a good mother, child, or friend is an obligation.
Sacred duties refer to the moral order that supports the cosmos, society, and the individual. We can all use this idea to overcome our responsibilities in life and to see it not as a burden but as a sacred duty.
In this book, yoga is defined as a discipline. This is the way to be disciplined. In this epic scene, Arjuna (the warrior) stops in the middle of the battlefield and loses his sacred duty. Then Krishna came and told him to act.
We can all relate to Arjuna in this story. In times of trouble, we stop, paralyzed by fear and doubt. The lesson here is never to stop spinning the wheel because if we do, we will lose our lives and stop growing.
