Tomb Raider PC Ultra VS TRESSFX Settings

With the newly released Tomb Raider, PC gamers have been excited to see the graphical enhancements adorning the superior version of the game. In the graphics menu of the game, toggling to the highest setting still leaves one feature unchecked. Right above “ultra” is “ultimate”, which enables “TRESSFX”. The superior graphics mode is both highly graphics intensive and equally impressive. Below are two different videos featuring the changes in hair rendering with each mode toggled.

The first video features TRESSFX enabled……..

and this second video without…..

With TRESSFX…..

Without……..

The end result is a far more realistic rending of the Lara’s hair, but it comes at a very significant price. Running a Radeon 7870 with 8GB RAM, frame rates dropped nearly 20% with the feature enabled.
